Convalescence Benefit

In health insurance, a convalescence benefit is a lump sum benefit provided to cover incidental expenses that arise due to extended hospitalisation, such as loss of income,. The benefit is usually triggered after a hospital stay of 7 or 10 consecutive days .

All health insurance policies do not include a convalescence benefit clause. Only those with a wider range of features may cover it. The benefit is designed to cover costs associated with recuperation and recovery or potential loss of income due to longer hospitalisation.

While a standard health insurance policy covers medical expenses, a convalescence benefit fills the gap by covering recovery-related expenses and potential loss of income.
