Daily Hospital Cash / Daily Cash
Daily hospital cash is a type of health insurance policy that provides daily cash benefits for each day of hospitalisation. The amount of cash benefit which is paid for each day of hospitalisation is pre-determined at the time of policy purchase.
Daily cash benefits are fixed benefits and do not depend on the cost of treatment. However, the benefit can be used to cover everyday expenses which occur during hospitalisation. These include room rent, doctor fees, nursing charges, surgery costs etc.
Daily hospital cash insurance can be bought as a stand-alone policy or as an add-on to your base health insurance policy. The premiums vary depending on the number of hospital days covered and the amount of daily cash benefit under the policy.
Some regular health insurance plans also reward policyholders with daily cash benefits for choosing shared accommodation in the hospital. Choosing a shared accommodation reduces the cost of a claim. The benefit is passed on to the policyholder in the form of daily cash. This benefit can be used to cover other expenses associated with the hospitalisation which are not included in the policy, such as food charges, attendant commute charges etc.
